Aloha Everyone! and Mele Kalikimaka!(ハワイ語のMerry Christmas)
ハワイでは、クリスマスの雰囲気がとても強いです。それは、基本的にアロハ・スピリットと同じものだからだと感じています。
アロハ・スピリットとクリスマス・スピリットの概念ときくと少し難しく聞こえるかもしれませんが、どちらも一般的には「親切であること、寛大であること、役に立つこと」そのようなイメージです。そこには愛がありと受け入れることに関して、とてもオープンです。
誰かがハワイを訪れたり、初めて会ったりすると、私たちはすぐにその人との絆を築きます。そして、最初に会った後は、その人をただの知り合いではなく、友人や家族のように受け入れるのです。この受け入れ方には2つの方法があります。
まず１つ目は、家族の視点から見ると、新しく受け入れられた人は家に歓迎されます。一緒に食事をしたり、リラックスしたり、スペイン語の「Mi casa es su casa」（私の家はあなたの家）という言葉のように、自由にくつろぐことができます。
しかし、もう一つは、個人の責任も伴います。自分の家族と同じように、あなたはもうゲストではありません。自分の身の回りをきれいにし、家事を手伝い（みんなが家事をしていれば自分もする）、家の中の全員に気を配ること。
これがハワイ流のアロハ・クリスマス・スピリットです。ハワイに行かれたことのある方は、現地で出会った人々からこのことを感じ取っていただけたら幸いです。
そして私は、特にYTJの仲間である皆さんに会って挨拶するときに、このハワイ文化の非常に重要な部分の良いお手本になれればと思っています。

In Hawaii, the Christmas Spirit is always very strong.I think that is because it’s basically the same thing as the Aloha Spirit.
The concepts of Aloha Spirit and Christmas Spirit are a little difficult to describe.But both are generally associated with being kind, generous, helpful, and similar things. There is also a very open type of love and acceptance.
When someone visits us in Hawaii, or if we meet someone for the first time, we are quick to form bonds with them.And after the first meeting we no longer see that person as just an acquaintence. They are now a friend or even a family member. This acceptance works in two ways.
Firstly, from the family’s perspective, this newly accepted individual is now welcome into our home and free to eat with us, relax with us, just be comfortable, like the Spanish phrase “Mi casa es su casa” (My house is your house).
But it also comes with a responsibility upon the individual.Just like in your own family, you are no longer a guest. You should clean up after yourself, help with taking care of the house (doing chores if everyone else is also doing chores), and always make sure that everyone in the house is taken cared of.
This is the Hawaiian style Aloha/Christmas Spirit!If you have ever been to Hawaii, I hope you have been blessed to feel this from the local people you met.And I hope that I can be a good example of this very important part of my Hawaiian Culture, especially when meeting and greeting you all, my fellow YTJ people!
